We need more facts on fraudulent land deals in Eldoret. Reading the article begs for clarification why the government and the local authority is not interested in clarifying this matter. The affected family obviously has a case here but so far we are not seeing anything done about it. Instead it seems the authorities are abeting such deals.

Family cries out for justice over grabbed land

Annah Kimitei stands outside her mud-walled three-room house, completely lost in her thoughts. Her eyes are trained on yet another a multi-million house coming up on a piece of land about 100m away.

In an embittered tone, Kimitei, 70, starts to narrate how her family has had to watch several building estimated at millions of shillings spring up on land she claims was forcefully taken away from her family over two decades ago.

Kimitei, whose husband died in1988, says unscrupulous land dealers have continued to hive off her land and are even bold enough to erect signposts inviting prospective buyers.

"My land has been taken away and not even the courts have stopped the grabbers," she says of 377-acre land at Kiplombe near Chepkoilel Campus, Eldoret.
